Materials Scientist & Sustainable Construction Specialist
Biography
I am a materials scientist and sustainable construction specialist with more than a decade of research experience focused on decarbonising the global construction industry.
My work combines data-driven methods with experimental materials science to accelerate the discovery, design and optimisation of sustainable infrastructure materials. I am particularly interested in how engineering intelligence can enable materials that are both high-performing and environmentally responsible.
I hold a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Sheffield, where my doctoral research received the departmental Ceramic Prize. From 2018 to 2026 I served as a Prize Fellow and subsequently promoted to Senior Lecturer at the University of Bath, leading six research grants as Principal Investigator and building a portfolio of more than £1 million, including the EPSRC New Investigator Award “GeoBattery” and an IDRIC Wave 2 project (MIP 8.7) focused on scaling up on-site CO₂ utilisation to support decarbonisation across the cement sector.
In 2022, my project on transforming alkaline solid wastes into carbon-negative feedstocks received the QinetiQ prize for “Best Early Career Researcher-led Project” from the Transforming Foundation Industries Network+. In 2026, I was named among the Women’s Engineering Society’s Top 50 Women in Engineering (WES50) for my work on engineering intelligence and AI-assisted materials design for low-carbon construction.
Driven by the passion that engineering intelligence can yield materials that are both functionally smart and sustainable, my research continues to integrate materials science, artificial intelligence and industrial decarbonisation to develop practical solutions for a more sustainable built environment.
